The calculator shows your profit, total return and ROI as a percentage.
ROI Formula
ROI (%) = (Final Value − Initial Investment − Additional Costs) ÷ Initial Investment × 100Example
- 1.Initial investment: $5,000
- 2.Final value: $7,500
- 3.Additional costs: $250
- 4.Profit = $7,500 − $5,000 − $250 = $2,250
- 5.ROI = $2,250 ÷ $5,000 × 100 = 45%
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently asked questions about the ROI Calculator
What counts as a good ROI?+
It depends heavily on the investment type, timeframe and risk. A good ROI for a savings account is very different from a good ROI for a marketing campaign or startup investment. Compare ROI within the same category and timeframe for a fair comparison.
Does ROI account for the time period?+
No, this is a simple ROI calculation and does not annualize returns. A 45% ROI over one month is very different from 45% over five years — factor in the timeframe yourself when comparing investments.
Should I include fees in the calculation?+
Yes, for an accurate net ROI you should include all costs associated with the investment, such as fees, taxes or maintenance, in the 'additional costs' field.
